In which West Virginia wins the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, but UMKC gets swept and Long Beach State drops one at UCLA.

Let's start this entry off with the bad news: UMKC lost ugly games at UALR and at home to Samford, dropping its record to 2-3 with wins against Missouri S&T and ... just plain Missouri. Struggling against the Roos was not good.

Just as painful was watching Long Beach State follow up its upset win over K-State with a 15-point loss at UCLA. Granted, the Bruins now are ranked, but the 49ers still fell to an unimpressive 2-3. We'll see where they go.

More positive were Bradley netting its first win, Savannah State winning two in a row and Nebraska-Omaha collecting its biggest win in five years by beating Marquette at Milwaukee.

But the best win by far came from West Virginia, which upset the defending national champion to win the Puerto Rico tournament, improve to 5-0 and vault into the rankings itself. The Mountaineers will be a handful.
