Kansas State’s Tuesday press conference has generated some buzz after Chris Klieman apparently asked the local media for its help in promoting a positive message about the program. The comment came after Klieman talked about being more positive as coaches and players, but the tweet from Kellis Robinett that fired up social media lacked that context. Overall, Klieman spoke to knowing that his team needs to be better, that they’ve been close, but as Klieman said “...nobody wants to hear close. We need to get it done.”
This weekend’s contest isn’t just a must-win game for K-State, Texas Tech coach Matt Wells is still feeling a pretty hot seat, despite a 5-2 start (their bye week isn’t until November), and this Saturday is likely their last best opportunity to pick up win #6 (and bowl eligibility) as the Red Raiders close out the season with both Oklahoma schools, Iowa State, and Baylor. With Wells already an unpopular choice in Lubbock, another season without a bowl game will probably be his last in west Texas.
K-State Sports has their weekly Wildcats in the NFL update, and while we haven’t linked it in a while, I’m choosing to today because B.J. Finney got the lead photo this week, and he’s an awesome dude.
Volleyball
Despite the split with West Virginia this past weekend, K-State somphomore libero Mackenzie Morris was selected as Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after carding a conference-leading 5.86 digs per set over the two contests with the Mountaineers. It’s Morris’ first weekly honor. Morris tallied 19 digs in the Wildcats four-set victory on Thursday, before notching 22 digs in the three-set loss on Friday, with 13 of those 22 coming in the third set.
The Wildcats return to action tomorrow, as they head to Ft. Worth to take on TCU on Thursday and Friday (both matches at 6:30pm CT). This should be a great opportunity for the Cats two pick up a couple conference wins as they hit the half-way point of conference play. The entire two-match set will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and the ESPN app with live, streaming audio available at K-StateSports.com/Watch. Thursday’s contest can also be heard on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM).
Basketball
Big 12 basketball media days started yesterday, with the women going first in Kansas City. The men are up today, and Bruce Weber led things off this morning.
