Basketball
It’s not basketball season, so naturally, we’ll open the weekend edition with basketball.
Kansas State will play the SEC’s Mississippi State in the Never Forget Tribute Classic on December 14, 2019 in Newark. The game is part of a doubleheader that will also feature Villanova and Delaware.
The Classic is a tribute to honor the men and women in the armed forces after September 11, 2001.
Track
All America honors continue for the track and field team. This time, senior Morgan Coffman was named to the Google Cloud All-American First Team. She has a 4.00 GPA in Management and Life Sciences. She was one of three Big 12 athletes named to the First Team, which followed from All-Big 12 honors she has now earned for three straight years.
Coffman was also named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in 2017 and 2018 and is a former recipient of the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award (2018).
Football
We’re just 63 days from kickoff and BracketCat’s countdown brings us to offensive lineman Ben Adler.
It’s the off-season and there’s plenty of legitimately dumb but vaguely football-centric content floating around. Here’s a small selection from beat writers in Big 12 country:
— At The Oklahoman, Berry Tramel plots road trips for the over-enthusiastic college football fan. Kansas State and Bill Snyder Family Stadium both get a shoutout.
— Jeff Howe (247 Horns) notes that Texas plays a number of games in the 2019 season in its home state, and going undefeated against that slate (which includes—in addition to the Kansas State game—a non-conference matchup with LSU and the annual tussle against Oklahoma) would propel the Longhorns into the national title conversation. Feel free to roll your eyes.
— Finally, the Times-Picayune’s Amie Just takes a peek at Les Miles’ latest adventure and wonders if the latest edition of The Les Miles Show (complete with eating grass and rappelling down buildings) will bring success to Kansas football.
Stay cool, fam.
