After a flurry of content from the weekend, yesterday was fairly quiet, and today will be as well until the football press conference later today. However, K-State Athletics has announced the 2020 football schedule, which features the return game from Vanderbilt on Sept. 19th, yet another road game to open Big 12 play, and a Thursday night contest against Iowa State in Ames on Oct. 29th. There’s just one bye week for the Wildcats in 2020, and it comes the weekend of Oct. 24th, giving K-State a break before the Thursday night game.

K-State Sports also has their weekly Wildcats in the NFL update posted, with highlights of Tyler Lockett, plus the Chiefs/Broncos match-up that featured a Cat on each squad.

Basketball

Bruce Weber said there was “some good, some bad” from the open scrimmage on Saturday. noting that the team has struggled with turnovers during the off-season but looked improved on Saturday, but effort often lagged during the extended scrimmage. The Wildcats begin their season this Friday, Oct. 25th, with an exhibition match-up in Bramlage Coliseum against Emporia State that will feature the 2019 Big 12 Championship banner-raising ceremony before the game.

Golf

Senior Jacob Eklund had a great opening 36 holes to finish the first day of competiton at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in a tie for third place, while leading the team to an eighth-place start (but just four strokes out of fifth, and five out of fourth). Second day action began at 8:30am CDT, and at posting the Cats sit in 7th place, with Eklund still in 3rd overall.

A poor finish on Monday sent the Wildcats falling from a high of 6th all the way to 12th overall at the Jim West Challenge. The ladies were led by Chloe Weir, who had reached as high as 12th place overall before falling to a tie for 22nd, joining her fellow Wildcats to shoot a combined 16-over on the final nine holes.
