This week’s edition of Bring on the PodCats dropped yesterday, and we talked with Bart Keeler of The Smoking Musket about this weekend’s Big 12 match-up with West Virginia. Bart predicts a good game, but still a big victory for the Mountaineers.
Volleyball
The Kansas State Wildcats open Big 12 conference play at home tonight as they welcome in the No. 5 Texas Longhorns to the friendly confines of Ahearn Fieldhouse. The VolleyCats have opened the season at 10-1 thanks to the leadership of senior Kylee Zumach, who was named Big 12 Offensive PotW on Monday, and freshman phenom Gloria Mutiri, who picked up Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.
Zumach credits her success this season to a change in team mentality, as well as ramped-up personal discipline on her part. She’s already twice received OPotW honors this season while leading the Cats to their best start since the 2014 squad opened the season at 13-1.
Football
Bill Snyder held his weekly press conference yesterday from the Vanier Football Complex. Quarterback play was much discussed, as well as the coaching swap that took place last weekend. That change was was maybe small in the grand scheme, but had a big impact for the Wildcats against UTSA (Robinett, Eagle).
At least someone is thinking of the K-State defense, as Tom Bragg at the Charleston (WV) Gazette-Mail reports that an “aggressive” Wildcat defense will challenge Will Grier and the Mountaineer offense.
K-State sports caught us up on all the Wildcats in the NFL, and several Cats had big weekends including Elijah Lee and D.J. Reed making big plays for the 49ers, B.J. Finney picking up his eighth career start in the Steelers loss to the Chiefs, and Tyler Lockett’s TD catch for the Seahawks on Monday night.
