Slate: Happy Independence Day!

Have fun, eat lots; but don’t blow off any fingers, please.

We’ve got a smattering of non-rev news for you today as we kick off your Fourth of July holiday. But we’d be remiss not to point out that yesterday, BracketCat took us to 60 days until kickoff with a profile of #60 Jake Helton; and who better to fill the large jersey of Will Geary than another walk-on. And be sure and stop by later today for a profile of #59 Drew Wiley.

First up, we have news that K-State sophomore women’s golfer Reid Isaac has qualified for the 2018 US Women’s Amateur Championship, which will take place in August. Isaac placed third at a regional qualifying event on Monday to earn her spot in the championship. Also from women’s golf, the Women’s Golf Coaches Association named their 2017-18 All-American Scholar list, and freshman Darby Deans earned the honor. Deans becomes the 10th Wildcat to receive that honor since 2012.

Over in the other stick-and-ball sport, K-State Sports dropped their weekly update of summer baseball. Cam Thompson is still leading the Harwich (Hah-wich) Mariners, and has six hits over his last five games.

K-State graduate Terrell Smith was expecting the USATF Outdoor Championships to be his last event. But a silver medal changed all that, as the 200-meter sprinter earned a spot on Team USA for the 2018 NACAC Championships in August.

Have a happy and safe Independence Day, Wildcats! Eat lots, blow some stuff up (just not body parts, please), and enjoy this hot July day.
