Yesterday, BracketCat introduced No. 33, freshman wide receiver Jaquay Lane. This morning, he got up early to tell us about No. 32, redshirt junior linebacker Justin Hughes. Both are part of the fruitful Georgia pipeline that has served K-State so well in recent years.

Soccer

Coach Dibbini added volunteer coach Elissa Post to the staff yesterday. She will be responsible for video analysis, scouting and on-field instruction, and she will help with K-State soccer camps and clinics. Ms. Post was previously an assistant coach at Emporia State. The team’s first game is Saturday evening, August 4, at Arkansas.

Football

The Columbus and Starkville Dispatch’s Mississippi State Sports Blog is doing its own countdown to kickoff, and chose to spotlight K-State and its 32nd-ranked rushing attack today, focusing on roster changes that, in the author’s opinion, make it unlikely K-State will be as productive on the ground this year. Problem is, the article is based largely on the incorrect premise that Dalvin Warmack transferred and is not on the roster any longer. So, as Roseanne Roseannadanna would say: Never mind.

The guys over at GoPowercat relived Tre Walker’s epic goal-line stop of Jacory Harris on the last play of the Miami game in 2011. Looking back, that single play (and the subsequent nail-biting replay) may have been the launching pad for two outstanding seasons. [Beware: annoying autoplay video on the link.]

Basketball

There actually is basketball news today, of sorts. The Augusta Free Press, in previewing George Mason’s non-conference basketball slate, had this to say about the team’s December 29 trip to Manhattan:

Mason will have the opportunity to showcase its skills on the national stage when the Patriots travel to the “Little Apple” – Manhattan, Kansas – for a premier road game against Kansas State. The December 29 game will be played in Bramlage Coliseum, which is infamously referred to as the “Octagon of Doom.”

Infamously? A matter of perspective, that.

The KC Star’s Jayhawks Q&A raises the Wildcat-related question whether KU and K-State may sweep the pre-season all-Big 12 team. Don’t know about all those downriver dudes, but it would be a travesty if Dean Wade and Barry Brown are not both on that list.
