We’re edging closer and closer to real live Kansas State football. Indeed, we’re less than 42 days away now. BracketCat counts us down to kickoff with #43 Derick Newton, a true freshman defensive tackle, and #42 Osvelt Joseph, a redshirt senior defensive end.
The Wildcats have been stellar at special teams since forever, and a big part of that has been contributions by star walk-ons on the unit. This year, the tradition continues with Colby Moore, who earned a scholarship for his final year at Kansas State. He’s played in 35 games and made 21 tackles so far, but his big moment came against Oklahoma last year, when a mad scramble for a loose ball on a botched Sooners punt ended with Moore finding the ball in the red zone.
Speaking of Oklahoma, offensive lineman Ben Powers had a breakout season last year. This year, he has already held court at Big 12 Media Days, and seems to have a Kansas State-sized chip on his shoulder. It turns out the Wichita native was not recruited by either of the two Power 5 schools in his home state, not even as a walk-on, and now he’s mad about it.
Finally, in his weekly K-State Q&A, Kellis Robinett riffs on various things, including the most interesting/weird things to happen at Big 12 Media Days, and the real reason why Duke Shelley wasn’t in Frisco.
There’s plenty happening in golf this weekend, including some good news for Kansas State’s golf team. For the sixth time in the nine years the award has existed, the Wildcat men’s team was voted an Academic All-American team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Have a good weekend, all!
