Slate: A new baseball coach for Kansas State?

Kansas State appears set to announce Pete Hughes as the next head baseball coach, plus a former BatCat earns a spot in the majors.

Will Pete Hughes be making the pitching changes next season? @PurpleKansas

Previously

Yesterday, Bracket Cat previewed Nick Lenners, which means we are only 87 days until the return of Wildcat football!

In coaching news, JT VanGilder reported on the expected hiring of Pete Hughes, to replace the retiring Brad Hill as head coach of the BatCats. Reaction to the hire has generally been “Meh” with many comparing it to the hiring of Bruce Weber to succeed Frank Martin.

Football

The upcoming football season will kickoff at 6:10 pm as the Wildcats play host to South Dakota. The game will air nationally on ESPN3. (Ryan Black, Manhattan Mercury)

Baseball

Former Wildcat Nick Martini is finally getting a shot in the Majors. Martini was drafted in 2011 by the Cardinals and has spent the past 6 seasons in the minors with the Cardinals organization before signing with the A’s this past off-season. Congrats and good luck to Nick! (Alex Hall, Athletics Nation)

Hale

The recovery, repair, and restoration of Hale will take a long time. Every square inch of the building was affected by the fire mostly due to smoke, and water damage caused by dousing the blaze on the roof. It will take at least a month for the building to dry out and insurance adjusters to assess the damage. (Mara Rose Williams, KC Star)
