With basketball season closing shop, we begin the slow slide into the summer doldrums, and the slate today reflects that slide.
Football
Spring practice began yesterday, and while there are numerous position battles happening all over the field the biggest battle is for QB1. (Tim Bisel, Capital Journal)
Kansas State will also have some position battles in the secondary, and that’s because standout DB D. J. Reed expects to hear his name called in the upcoming NFL draft. Shane Carter of Indiana Sports Coverage gave his NFL Draft profile of Reed, naming him the number one overall nickle/slot corner in the draft this season. (Shane Carter, Indiana Sports Coverage)
Basketball
I’m fairly confident in saying most, if not all, of the readership of Bring on the Cats will be rooting for Villanova to defeat the school down the river in the upcoming Final Four. But some Wildcat fans are apparently willing to look past the Flaw on the Kaw simply because they happen to be from Kansas.* (Ann Olamiju, WIBW.com)
*Those fans would be wrong, as everyone should now be rooting for the fighting Sister Jean’s.
Finally, we’ll end the slate with a discussion question. Since today is opening day for Major League Baseball, what is everyone’s favorite opening day memory? Mine is watching the expansion Colorado Rockies play in their first game ever with my Dad. Eric Young his a first inning home run in the Rockies first ever at bat, and to this day that remains one of my top five sports viewing memories.
