Basketball
After shaking off some funk against Iowa State, the Kansas State Wildcats are looking to keep their streak rolling and bolster their NCAA Tournament resume with a win over the visiting Texas Longhorns tonight (Jarrett Whitson, Collegian). We’ll have your regular How to Watch guide a little later today, as well as your open game thread where you can discuss a game that is going to be shown on a real-live network. In the mean time, K-State Sports has their official preview, and Kellis Robinett has his preview via the Wichita Eagle.
Up on today’s Sports Extra, a look at Xavier Sneed and his fight through frustration during his sophomore campaign by doing the little things needed to help his team win.
There was basketball in Bramlage last night as well, but it did not end well for the host Wildcats. The K-State women fell to visitor West Virginia last night 75-66 to fall under .500 to 13-14, 5-11 on the season. Four Wildcats scored in double-figures, led by Peyton Williams’ 18, but it wasn’t enough against the Mountaineers who took an early lead and were able to hold off a late charge from K-State.
The Cats will look to break their current three-game losing streak, and get back to .500, against the visiting Jayhawks this Saturday. It’s the 50th Season Celebration Game, senior night, and there is a throwback jersey ticket package available for purchase. K-State took the matchup in Lawrence back in January 63-59 over the 9th-place Jayhawks, and will be looking for their fourth-straight season sweep of KU, and their ninth win overall (to no losses) since Jeff Mittie’s arrival in Manhattan.
Baseball
With a days rest under their belts since their first win of the season, the BatCats are set to face the Elon Phoenix today at 3pm CST at Walter C. Latham Field in Elon, NC. Wildcat freshman Caleb Littlejim is set to take the mound for his first start of the season, and just his second appearance in 2018. In his first appearance, Littlejim pitched two innings of one-hit baseball, throwing just one walk to two strikeouts against the #17 Indiana Hoosiers in the loss last Saturday.
Tennis
The K-State tennis team has started the season strong, and have been awarded with a No. 35 ranking in the latest Oracle/ITA national team rankings released on Tuesday. One individual also made an appearance in the singles rankings, as freshman Margot Decker came in at No. 104. It;s the highest the WIldcats have been in the rankings since reaching the No. 32 spot to finish the 2003 season, and the first time for the Cats to be ranked at all since finishing the 2014 season at No. 68.
