Kansas State will begin the 2017 Big 12 campaign against Baylor at Bill Snyder Family Stadium this afternoon. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2. Jon Morse has all the details in the Baylor/Kansas State How to Watch post.
We have plenty of pregame content to tide you over until kickoff. First, Jon Morse brings you game-specific media coverage in the Kansas State/Baylor pregamer. Then, TB kicks the tires on the Bears, and much to my surprise, seems fairly optimistic about a Wildcat victory. Finally, AMS continues our longstanding four-week old tradition by running well-intentioned smack against Baylor in Trash Talk.
While many purple-clad fans are total homers (as they should be), for at least Kansas State student, it might be hard to cheer unequivocally for the Wildcats. Amaad Wainwright, a basketball player for Kansas State, is the brother of Baylor tight end Ishmael Wainwright. Though Ish is unlikely to play today, Amaad hopes for big things for his sibling (Kellis Robinett, Wichita Eagle).
The Kansas State defense played reasonably well in the loss to Vanderbilt, but Big 12 play is a different beast altogether. The Baylor offense, finally sort of finding a rhythm, should be a good early test for the Wildcats (Ken Corbitt, Topeka Capital-Journal).
Of particular concern for the defense is the improved play of Bears quarterback Zach Smith, who went 33-of-50 for 463 yards and four touchdowns. Smith’s efforts did not go unnoticed by one Bill Snyder (our very own Greg Woods, Manhattan Mercury).
It’s a light slate for the Big 12 conference today, with only two other teams in action. Oklahoma State is a 10.5 point-favorite over Texas Tech. The Red Raiders will defend their home turf at 7 PM on FOX.
