Athletics Department

The big news from yesterday was the departure of deputy athletics director Laird Veatch to a similar position with the University of Florida. Jon Morse gave us the details of the move, plus his reaction and what it means for Kansas State.

Newly hired AD Gene Taylor went out of his way to praise the work Veatch had done or Kansas State in hopes of keeping him on staff, but ultimately Veatch decided it was time to move. (Kellis Robinett, Wichita Eagle)

Finally, right before the news of Veatch’s departure broke, the Dodge City Daily Globe had the change to sit down with Gene Taylor for a Q and A at a recent Catbacker event. (Timothy Everson, Dodge City Daily Globe)

Football

In football news, D.J. Reed was named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list, thus kicking off watch list season. It’s the sixth straight season a Wildcats has been named to the Lott watch list. (Staff Reports, Salina Post)

In recruiting news, both Kansas and Kansas State are high on De La Salle Safety Lance Robinson’s list. Robinson expects to take some official visits this summer to try and narrow down his list (which also includes Arizona), before making a decision before the start of his senior season. Baseball

It was a heart breaking loss for the BatCats in Wichita last night, as the Shockers’ Luke Ritter smacked a walk-off home run to down the Wildcats 3-2. (Jeffrey Lutz, Wichita Eagle)
