Football
There’s not a lot to be said about a game where the winning team is ahead at the half by seven five touchdowns. Kansas State won the first half of the game against Missouri State, and looked good doing it in pretty much every facet of the game. That’s pretty much all she wrote.
Then again, maybe there’s just a bit more to it, as Jon Morse notes in his post-game report: Kansas State 35 Missouri State 0—Weather Wins.
Here are other game recaps in no particular order:
- K-State wins 35-0 (K-State SID)
- K-State beat Missouri State 35-0 (ESPN)
- K-State pops Missouri State (Kellis Robinett, Wichita Eagle)
- K-State blanks Missouri State (Ken Corbitt, Topeka Capital-Journal)
- Wildcats rout Missouri State in storm (Joel Jellison, Manhattan Mercury)
- K-State delivers rain-shortened rout (Jim Connell, Springfield News-Leader)
Some interesting statistics from the game (which may or may not count in the end):
Leading passer: Jesse Ertz—7/8; 94 yards, 11.8 yards/attempt; 2 TD, 0 INT
Leading rusher: Jesse Ertz—3 rushes, 85 yards, 28.3 yards/attempt
Leading Collin Klein impersonator: bleeding hand, bleeding elbow? Don’t care.
I think the Kansas State quarterback situation is going to be A-OK.
Mo. State passing: 3/12, 24 yards, 2 yards/attempt; 0 TD, 1 INT
Mo. State rushing: 17 rushes, 30 yards, 1.8 yards/attempt
Mo. State punting: 4 punts, 190 yards, 38.0 yards/punt; no TB, no punts inside 20
So the Kansas State defense not only pitched a shutout, but Missouri State had nearly four times as many yards punting as on offense. That’s a pretty dominant defensive performance, even given the quality of the competition.
Bring on the ‘Eers.
Tennis
The tennis team earned its third consecutive honor as an ITA Academic All-America team, while six players were also named scholar-athletes: Iva Bago, Sara Castellano, Livia Cirnu, and Palma Juhasz all earned ITA Scholar-Athlete awards, while freshmen Millie Stretton and Ana Garcia Navas were named for the first time.
Kansas State leads the conference in ITA Scholar-Athlete awards.
