Dear BotC,
I am a longtime Kansas State fan. My friends in the media say there is no Bill Snyder. Some say "if you win, it must be Bill." Please tell me the truth, is there a Bill Snyder?Worried in Wildcatland,
2201 Kimball Avenue.
Your friends in the media are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of the recruiting age. They do not believe except when they see 3- and 4-star recruits all over the roster. They think nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Worried, whether of the WWL or otherwise, are little. In the great landscape of sports, the media is but a mere insect, an ant in their collective intellects, incapable of grasping the whole truth and knowledge.
Yes, Worried, there is a Bill Snyder. He exists as certainly as polls and mascots and controversy, and you know that these abound and make college football the greatest sport in the world! Imagine how dreary a fall Saturday would be if there were no Bill Snyder! It would be as dreary as if there were no Wildcat fans. There would be no bowl games, no trophies, no Ring of Honor. We would have no enjoyment of sports. In short, we would all be Kansas fans.
Not believe in Bill Snyder! You might as well not believe in The Force! Maybe you should get your friends to watch the parking lot at Vanier to see if they can spot Bill Snyder. But even if they never see Bill Snyder, what would that prove? Nobody ever sees Bill Snyder enter or leave the building, but that's no sign there's no Bill Snyder! The most real things in the world are the things the media cannot see. Did you ever think we'd make a bowl game after those six straight losses? Of course not, but somehow we did just that. Nobody could conceive we'd beat Iowa State the way we did, and nobody could imagine that comeback against West Virginia either. These are wonders unknown and unknowable until they happen.
No Bill Snyder?! Thank goodness he lives and lives forever (him being a wizard and all). A year from now, maybe ten years from now, nay even a generation from now, he will continue to make Wildcat hearts glad.
It's a slow news day, as in there's hardly any news at all. But there's a bowl game coming up, and Kansas State is not worried about the massive Arkansas offensive line the Wildcat defense will go up against in the Liberty Bowl. The term "massive" here is not just hyperbole. The Razorbacks' linemen weigh a collective 1,638 pounds, the heaviest line in college football (Kellis Robinett, Wichita Eagle).
The Big 12 Blog crew at ESPN are handing out Christmas gifts to the conference. To Kansas State, Jake Trotter is giving a fifth Morgan Burns return-for-touchdown.'Tis the season, but the Kansas State cheer squad gives back all year. They pick a different charity every month and donate their time and services. This month, the team was involved with the Wreaths Across America effort at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, where they laid wreaths on the graves of fallen soldiers. (Kelly McHugh-Stewart, K-State Sports).
