Landing the physically developed wing was a priority for Bruce Weber and that helped push the Wildcats over the top despite regional high major offers from UMass and Seton Hall.
Except him to enter the rankings as a mid-to-high 3* prospect in the near future.
What He Brings
Edwards can play both shooting guard and small forward, and is a tenacious on-ball defender with the ability to become a true lock down defender at the college level.
His offensive game is still developing, but all the components are in place. He can score at all 3 levels and has a nice stroke on his lefty outside shot. At the moment, he’s at his best taking the ball to the rim. He uses his body to finish through contact and should draw plenty of and-1 attempts at the next level, but his outside shooting may eventually be his calling card in Manhattan.
How He Fits
I love the way his game meshes with 2020 wings Selton Miguel and Luke Kasubke. In fact, he’s a bit of a mash-up of the two players. He’s a more athletic than Kasubke and a little more skilled than Miguel. He could pair with Miguel on the wing to give the Wildcats two lock down defenders, and provide some shooting. He could also pair with Kasubke as a foil for Luke’s more perimeter oriented game. Either way, I think Bruce has something cooking on the wings in the near future.
Maximus joins 3* post player Logan Landers in the 2021 class.
Note:
Unfortunately, he won’t be able to suit up until next season, because he could provide quality minutes to the decimated squad next week.
