8 PLUS 1 DAYS TO (TENTATIVE) 2020 KICKOFF: Jackson Smith

New, 2 comments

In which BracketCat counts down the ninth day until the 2020 kickoff with a profile of Kansas State offensive lineman Jackson Smith.

Luke Hayes (68) was the last offensive lineman to wear that particular number and see significant playing time. Perhaps Jackson Smith will be the next, but I don’t think it will be the next season...

Disclaimer: As the 2020 football season still is “technically” scheduled to proceed as planned in Manhattan, with the recent delay of our season opener until Sept. 12 against Arkansas State, we will reset and continue this Countdown for just a little bit longer...

Jackson Smith (b. Sept. 5, 2001) is a walk-on offensive lineman from Saint Thomas Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota, who plans on majoring in agricultural business and likely will redshirt.

Smith played under head coach Dan O’Brien at Saint Thomas, where he unfortunately missed his sophomore and junior seasons due to injury before picking up first-team all-state honors as a senior from the Minnesota Associated Press.

He was named to the All-Metro team by The StarTribune and KARE-TV, and also earned conference offensive lineman of the year honors for the Cadets in 2019.

An academic star, Smith graduated cum laude and he also was also part of the debate club, entrepreneurship club and French club.
