Disclaimer: As the 2020 football season still is “technically” scheduled to proceed as planned in Manhattan, with the recent delay of our season opener until Sept. 12 against Arkansas State, we will reset and continue this Countdown for just a little bit longer...

Dylan Scott Wentzel (b. June 3, 1998) walked on from Salina High School Central as a running back, but redshirted in 2017 and converted to wide receiver the ensuing offseason.

His only statistical note from the 2018 spring game was a dropped pass from former quarterback Ryan Henington as a member of the White squad.

Wentzel played against UTSA, but did not record any statistics in the 2018 season. But he saw some time in three games in 2019, playing against Nicholls, Bowling Green and Kansas.

Wentzel took an end-around for 7 yards in the season opener against Nicholls and later earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors as he was nominated with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

He played under head coach Mike Hall at Salina Central, where he was a two-time all-district honoree who also played basketball, a state qualifier in track and field, the student council president, and an all-state academic performer.

Both of Wentzel’s parents attended K-State and he is majoring in biochemistry with the hope of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
