#90 Bronson Massie

Bronson Massie (b. Nov. 4, 1997) is athletic defensive end who came on strong toward the end of his redshirt freshman campaign in 2017.

He will be in the mix to possibly start at defensive end in 2020 after playing in 23 games over the last two seasons as a reserve and graduating in May with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies.

After redshirting in 2016, Massie played in nine games in 2017 — including a start in the regular-season finale against Iowa State — and he totaled 10 tackles on the year.

He also set a career high with six stops at Texas Tech, while he had two against the Cyclones and broke up a pass against UCLA in the Cactus Bowl.

Massie played in all 12 games in a reserve role in 2018, totaling 11 tackles, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup. He carded a season-high three tackles against both Baylor and Oklahoma State, while he also had two stops against UTSA.

The highlight of his season was when Massie recovered a fumble against Kansas on the Jayhawks’ final drive to preserve the victory. He then came back with a pass breakup the next week against Texas Tech in Bill Snyder’s final victory ever.

Massie played in 11 games in 2019 as part of the regular rotation at defensive end. He finished the season with seven tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and his first career sack, which he registered against Baylor for a 17-yard loss.

Massie played outside linebacker in high school, making him a prime candidate for the rush end/flanker spot once filled by players such as Elijah Lee and Charmeachealle Moore.

A three-year letter-winner for the Lufkin High School Panthers under head coach Todd Quick, Massie was regarded as the 62nd-best outside linebacker in the class of 2016 by ESPN, while Scout.com rated him the No. 16 defensive end in the state of Texas.

He helped Lufkin to earn a 7-4 record and a trip to the state playoffs in 2015.

Massie earned first-team All-District 16-5A honors as a defensive end in 2015, while he was an honorable mention Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 5A All-State pick.

He was named to the East Texas Sports Network East Texas Football Super Team after recording 173 tackles and 26 sacks during his three-year career, including an 80-tackle, 10-sack campaign as a senior.
