Welcome to rock bottom, Wildcat fans. As they say, there’s no place else to go but up.
Just a few days removed from the embarrassing loss to Fort Hays State, the Kansas State Wildcats are back in action again tonight against Bruce Weber’s Alma Mater, Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Tonight, Bruce needs to send his first school home with a loss if he wants to start to quench the incredible burning under his seat.
But it’s, clearly, not going to be easy for the Wildcats. This is a young team that has no on-court leader. The coaches still seem to be figuring out who works with who, how to coach these guys defense, and generally keep the team from collapsing under the very slightest weight of in-game disappointment. It also doesn’t help that there’s zero film on the Panthers, as due to COVID-related schedule issues, Milwaukee will be playing it’s first game of the season tonight.
Hopefully the Wildcats will use the embarrassment from the loss to the Tigers as fuel to spur a fresh start to the season. Or they could collapse even further inside themselves, setting the stage for the final act of the Bruce Weber saga in Manhattan.
We’ve got another prime-time tip-off from Bramlage today, with a 7:01pm CT start that can be seen on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with Ben Boyle (play-by-play) and Stan Weber (analyst) on the call. This will be the first game back with fans for the men’s basketball team, so it should feel a bit more like home court environment than the first three games.
If you haven’t subscribed to ESPN+ (and you can do so right here), you can listen to Wyatt Thompson (play-by-play) and Matt Walters (analyst) call the game on much of the K-State Sports Radio Network, and also available online via the TuneIn App and at K-StateSports.com, but no satellite radio.
