Kansas State at Alabama: Big 12/SEC Challenge Open Game Thread

The Wildcats are in Tuscaloosa this evening to take on the Crimson Tide as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge

NCAA Basketball: Kansas State at Kansas

Before the last two games, the 2019-20 basketball season had lacked few surprises. Certainly, the team hadn’t lived up to fan expectations, and there was an overall lack of excitement around the Wildcats basketball team.

And then K-State picked up a shocking 84-68 victory over the Mountaineers. It gave fans a spark of hope, even if we all knew that while that was certainly the peak of what this team could do, there would still be more struggles ahead. And then the KU game happened. Going from a 16-point victory over a ranked team to a 21-point blowout loss to another ranked team is certainly not unexpected for a team as young as this version of the Wildcats. But the blowout loss wasn’t the only thing that happened in Lawrence. And so instead of spending the last few days talking about the highs and lows of this basketball team, we’ve been talking about the fight that occurred in the closing seconds of the loss to KU.

Today is the Wildcat’s (and the fans) chance to put that all behind them. Time to move on, and just worry about basketball again. Because there is still a lot of season left. There are still positives that can come from these Wildcats, still opportunities for more. But they got to play more like they did against West Virginia than the they against Kansas. And that needs to happen soon.

Alabama is a decent team, a NCAA Tournament hopeful. Hopefully, the Wildcats are ready for the challenge, and ready to get back to basketball.

We’ve got a dinner-time game today (for those in GOTZ), with a 5:05pm CST tip that can be see on ESPN2 with Tom Hart (play-by-play) and Andy Kennedy (analyst) on the call. You might be able to stream the game via WatchESPN if you are in the correct market.
