Kirk Patrick Coomes (b. March 16, 2000) is a walk-on fullback out of Phillipsburg High School who redshirted in 2018 and projects as a possible special teams contributor.
A four-year letter-winner at Phillipsburg under head coach J.B. Covington, Coomes was a two-time first-team all-state honoree by The Wichita Eagle, while he was an honorable mention pick as a sophomore in 2015.
Coomes also earned first-team honors as a senior from The Topeka Capital-Journal and Kansas Football Coaches Association, while he twice picked up honorable mention accolades and was a three-time member of The Hays Daily News’ All-Area Super 11 Team.
He helped to lead the Panthers to a combined 44-6 record during his four seasons at Phillipsburg, including an 11-2 mark and a state championship in 2015.
Coomes rushed for 3,379 yards and 54 touchdowns over his final three seasons, while he carded 219 tackles during the same time frame. He was selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl, and also lettered two years in wrestling and two years in track and field.
Coomes plans on majoring in biology with the hopes of becoming a pediatric anesthesiologist.
