Scott A. Frantz (b. June 7, 1996) is a highly touted offensive lineman who has started three straight seasons at left tackle. He will look to hold down his starting spot as a senior while taking his game to another level and learning from a brand-new coaching staff.
Frantz started all 13 games in 2016 and was the first K-State freshman to start an entire season at left tackle since at least 1988. He helped to block for an offense that ranked sixth nationally in rushing touchdowns.
Frantz also helped K-State to set the school record for rushing yards per carry (5.27), rank third in school history in total rushing yards (3,013) and rushing yards per game (231.8), and finish seventh in rushing touchdowns (39).
He earned Big 12 All-Freshman team honors from Athlon, while he was named to the All-Bowl team by the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated and USA Today.
Frantz again started all 13 games at left tackle in 2017, helping to lead the Cats to a tie for third in school history in rushing yards per carry (4.98) and a seventh-place ranking in total rushing yards (2,584), finishing second in the Big 12 in both categories.
He also blocked for a K-State bowl-record 344-yard rushing output in the Cactus Bowl victory over UCLA.
Frantz started every game in 2018 at left tackle, helping to lead the K-State offense to a third-place finish in the Big 12 by averaging 182.6 rushing yards per game, which included a 184.2-yard average in conference games to rank second in the Big 12.
He is a three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 performer who picked K-State over offers from Iowa State, Kansas, Miami, Minnesota, Missouri and Purdue.
A three-year letter-winner for Free State High School under head coach Bob Lisher, Frantz led the Freebirds to an 8-4 record and a run to the state semifinals in 2014. The team went 10-2 and advanced to the semifinals in 2012.
He was rated the 48th-best offensive tackle nationally and fourth-best player in the state of Kansas by Rivals. He also was ranked the second-best offensive tackle in the state by Scout.
Named one of the top 11 players in the state and to the All-Class 6A teams by both The Topeka Capital-Journal and The Wichita Eagle in 2014, Frantz also was a first-team All-Metro selection by The Kansas City Star in 2014.
He also was named to the American Family Insurance All-USA Kansas Team as a senior, earned honorable-mention all-state honors as a junior and was named a first-team All-Sunflower League selection in both years.
Frantz was selected to play in the 2015 Kansas Shrine Bowl. He also played basketball in high school.
