Baseball
The Big 12 Baseball Championships begin today, an KU and WVU kicked off action this morning at 9am from Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City as the 4/5 game. K-State beings their quest to earn the conference auto-bid at 12:30pm against 1-seed Texas Tech. Anything can happen at the championships, and it wasn’t all that long ago that Oklahoma State earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament as the 8-seed by sweeping through the Big 12 Championship, and the Wildcats will look to create a similar hot-streak to keep their post-season hopes alive.
Today’s game can be seen on FOX College Sports // FOX Sports Go, and can be heard online (or over-the-air on 1350KMAN in Manhattan) with Brain Smoller and Matt Walters on the call.
Scheduled to take the mound today is Big 12 Freshman of the Year Jordan Wicks. Wicks, as announced by the Big 12 Conference yesterday, also earned All-Big 12 Second Team and Freshman Team honors after breaking the K-State freshman records for innings-pitched and strikeouts. He was joined on the all-conference lists by Griffin Hassall (All-Freshman Team); Zach Kokoska, Caleb Littlejim, Terrence Spurlin and Cameron Thompson were selected as Honorable Mention.
Volleyball
Suzie Fritz picked up some recognition for her newest group of VolleyCats, as the Wildcats 2019 class was rated as the No. 20 class in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com. The class features five freshman, three of whom reign from Kansas, with one from Hawai’i and one from Wisconsin.
