Kansas State vs Alabama State: Open Game Thread

The Wildcats welcome in the Hornets to Bramlage while looking to get back up after last Saturday’s loss.

All good things must come to an end, and for Kansas State, it was a 33-game home non-conference winning streak that came to an end on Saturday night. It wasn’t like the last time the Wildcats lost at home — a miserable 50-46 loss to Georgia that had followed an even more miserable 58-56 loss to Texas Southern — but a loss is a loss, and so the streak must start anew.

That begins tonight, as the Wildcats welcome in the Alabama State Hornets from Montgomery, AL, who are in the midst of a 15-game road trip to start the 2019-20 season. They have already faced four teams that were ranked or receiving votes when the Hornets visited, and still have a trip out to Eugene, OR to faced a Top 15 ranked Ducks squad just before the end of the year. Such is the early-season life for many teams of the SWAC (oh, hey, that ‘14-15 Texas Southern team that beat the Cats won the SWAC that year...).

This is a game the Wildcats should win handily. Or they could sleep-walk through it, as this team has shown it is prone to do, and it could end up as an ugly game, win or lose.

Tonight’s game, scheduled for a 7:02pm CST tip, can be see on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with Ben Boyle (play-by-play), Stan Weber (analyst), and Bridget Howard (sidelines) on the call. If you haven’t signed up for ESPN+ yet (and you can do so right here), you can listen to Wyatt Thompson (play-by-play) and Matt Walters (analyst) call the game on much of the K-State Sports Radio Network, and also available online via the TuneIn App and at K-StateSports.com.
