Bring on the PodCats with the Des Moines Register’s Danny Lawhon

A Camping World Bowl bid could be at stake in Manhattan this weekend, and Danny says this game could go a long way in determining whether Iowa State fans consider this season a success.

Kansas v Iowa State
Is this the second-best quarterback in the Big 12, even though he’s only a sophomore? Most signs point to yes.

It’s Farmageddon week once again, and betting against another close game feels like a fool’s errand with these two teams. Danny and JT agree that not only is third place in the Big 12 potentially up for grabs (K-State would have to settle for a tie, of course) but a bid to the Camping World Bowl in Orlando could also be at stake. Iowa State entered this season with big expectations, and Danny said the Cyclones could mostly satisfy their fans by winning in Manhattan to finish the regular season 8-4.

Much like Kansas State, Iowa State is dealing with some injuries, most notably to top wide receiver Deshaunte Jones, who hurt his shoulder in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s win over Kansas. Since recording this podcast news has come out that Jones looks ready to go, but as Danny noted, sophomore quarterback Brock Purdy should be the main focus for the Kansas State defense. It would be most painful, though, if the Wildcats struggle to stop true freshman Breece Hall, since the Wichita Northwest running back was a Kansas State target.

We also discussed what Matt Campbell’s future might look like amidst speculation he could be a candidate for the Florida State job, and even delved into some Iowa State topics in other sports. Don’t forget to check out the work of Danny and others on the Des Moines Register’s website, and follow Danny on Twitter as he heads to Manhattan this weekend @dannylawhon.
