Levi Daniel Archer (b. Aug. 5, 1999) is an athletic prospect at multiple positions from Goodland High School in the town of the same name. Despite his versatility, he will redshirt.

I think Archer projects best as a tight end, but he also could play quarterback, wide receiver or defensive end. So basically, he translates as one of the Klein brothers, Collin or Kyle.

A four-year letter-winner for the Cowboys, including the final year under head coach Chase Topliff, Archer picked up honorable mention all-state honors as a senior from The Topeka Capital-Journal and The Wichita Eagle. He also earned all-league honors on two occasions.

Archer threw for more than 4,800 yards with 40 touchdowns in his career, while rushing for 1,300 yards with 22 scores.

He also played on defense, registering 91 career tackles and two interceptions.

Archer lettered four years in basketball and two years in baseball, earning all-league honors in both, while he was the conference champion in javelin as a junior.

The Wildcats seem to find and recruit a guy like this every season now: a tall, scrappy, solid runner from within the state with a frame to add more weight and a credible enough arm to present potential as a passer.

Collin Klein was actually listed as a 6-4, 200 pound “pro-style passer” out of high school himself. Archer is similar.

He’s a tough runner with some legitimate quickness that did a lot of damage in particular either scrambling before finding targets down the field or running quarterback counter.

He doesn’t seem to make quick decisions on film unless he’s outside of the pocket, but had a few clips where he read leverage and threw with anticipation and good timing from the pocket.

He’d need a lot of development as a passer, but there are some tools here to work with and I’m sure they’d rather he fill out to 220+ before he plays anyways. He could also become a wide receiver, tight end or defensive end down the line if he can’t win the job.

To add to the position confusion, Archer is listed as an outside linebacker by 247Sports.

He picked the Wildcats over interest from Colorado State, Kansas, Nebraska and Wyoming, according to ESPN.
