Hunter Rison (b. Sept. 3, 1998) is a talented wide receiver with a football background who transferred to K-State after playing his true freshman season at Michigan State. Although we really need his help, he will have to sit out the 2018 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Rison is the first Wildcat to hail from the state of Michigan since fullback Travis Wilson —who also was a MSU transfer — in 2002 and 2003. He is a significant recruiting coup for us.

Rison played as a true freshman in 2017 under head coach Mark Dantonio and saw action in 12 games, recording 18 catches for 223 yards. His best performance of the year came against Notre Dame, when he hauled in four catches for 73 yards.

Rison also had a 52-yard effort in a win over No. 7 Penn State, which featured a season-long reception of 26 yards to convert on third down, and snared two catches for 30 yards at Minnesota, with both coming on third downs.

He rushed three times for 11 yards, including a season-long rush of 9 yards against Iowa.

Rison played two years at Skyline High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, including his senior season under head coach Andrew Sorgatz, and was rated with four stars by most services.

He was selected to the Rivals250 (No. 246), Scout300 (No. 271) and PrepStar350 (No. 286) rankings as one of the best overall prospects in the country, and rated the 37th-best wide receiver in the Class of 2017 by Rivals, while he was No. 39 by Scout and No. 50 by ESPN.

Rison was rated the fifth-best player in the state of Michigan by Rivals, while Scout listed him as the second-best wide receiver in the state. He earned PrepStar All-America honors and Associated Press Division 1-2 All-Michigan First Team accolades as a junior and senior.

Rison also was chosen to the USA TODAY Sports All-USA Michigan Second Team in 2016.

He recorded nearly 1,700 receiving yards with 19 touchdowns in his junior and senior years.

Rison had 35 receptions for 645 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior, while he helped the Eagles to win the 2016 Ann Arbor city title after recording 1,046 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

He registered four 100-yard receiving games his junior season, including a 12-catch, 339-yard performance with two scores against Temperance Bedford.

Prior to moving to Ann Arbor, Rison played at Basha High School in Chandler, Arizona, where he had 31 catches for 376 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore in 2014.

His father, Andre, was a four-year letter-winner at Michigan State before playing 12 seasons in the NFL with seven different teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs.

Andre Rison was selected in the first round (No. 22 overall) of the 1989 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts and earned Pro Bowl honors five times.
