Darreyl Patterson (b. Aug. 6, 1995) is an athletic defensive back who originally signed with K-State out of high school in 2015, but ended up going the community college route.
He held true to his original commitment, though, picking the Cats over offers from Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe and UCF, and will compete for playing time and possible starting duties in the defensive backfield in 2018.
Patterson played two seasons under head coach Clay Patterson at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, where he was regarded as the 16th-best community college cornerback in the Class of 2018 by ESPN.
He made 10 tackles in five games during the 2017 season, including a season-high four with a pass breakup during the Midwest Classic Bowl against Independence Community College.
Patterson carded 35 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass breakups during his freshman season in 2016.
He came away with a career-high seven tackles to go along with an interception at Cisco College and also recorded a pick against Navarro College, while he had a season-high two pass breakups on three occasions.
Patterson, who was a JUCO teammate of fellow Wildcats defensive back Kevion McGee, played at Lawton (Okla.) High School under head coach Randy Breeze.
Back then, he was regarded as the top cornerback prospect in the state of Oklahoma for the Class of 2015 by Scout and the seventh-best player overall in the state by Rivals.
Patterson led Lawton to an 11-2 record and a Class 6A-II runner-up finish as he made 21 tackles and two interceptions in limited time on defense.
He earned 2014 all-state honors as a defensive back from The Oklahoman, while he rushed for 2,071 yards and 20 touchdowns en route to being named to the USA TODAY Sports/American Family Insurance All-USA Oklahoma Team.
Patterson also was ranked No. 8 on The Oklahoman’s Super 30 as a high school senior.
He had offers out of high school from Arizona State, Arkansas State, Kansas State, Memphis, Oklahoma, Tulsa, Washington State and Wyoming, as well as interest from Baylor, Louisville and Oklahoma State.
