57 DAYS TO 2018 KICKOFF: Spencer Trussell

In which BracketCat counts down the 57th day until the 2018 kickoff with a profile of defensive end Spencer Trussell.

#57 Jordan Voelker
Jordan Voelker is the last defensive end I can remember who wore No. 57. For a walk-on, he came on very strong toward the end of his career. I have equally high hopes for 2018 recruit Spencer Trussell.

Spencer Landon Trussell (b. Oct. 18, 1998) is a promising weakside defensive end prospect from Martin High School in Arlington, Texas. I fully expect him to redshirt this season.

Trussell lettered three years for the Warriors under head coach Bob Wager. He was viewed as the 79th-best defensive end in the nation for the Class of 2018 by ESPN and was named a finalist for the Dallas-Fort Worth Defensive Player of the Year award.

Trussell totaled 59 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, three sacks, two blocked field goals and a blocked punt as a senior in 2017, when he helped Martin High to advance to the regional round of the Texas Class 6A D1 state playoffs.

He earned first-team All-District 4-6A honors in 2017, while he was a second-team pick as a junior, and he also participated in track and field, competing in shot put and discus.

Trussell’s father, Randy, played football at East Central Oklahoma and his older brother, Jess, completed his sophomore season in 2017 as a tight end at Purdue, while another brother, Connor, played football at North Texas. So there are some athletic bloodlines there, for sure.

Spencer Trussell chose K-State over offers from Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Illinois State, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulane, Tulsa and UTSA.
