Trace James Kochevar (b. Oct. 22, 1997) is a tall tight end who originally signed with K-State in 2016, but deferred his enrollment (grayshirted) to the spring of 2017. He used a redshirt season to develop, and will compete for playing time at tight end and on special teams.
A three-year letter-winner for Salina High School South under head coach Sam Sellers, Kochevar earned honorable mention all-state accolades as a junior and senior from The Topeka Capital-Journal and The Wichita Eagle.
He also earned all-state accolades from the Kansas Football Coaches Association as a senior in 2015.
Kochevar totaled 230 receiving yards during his prep career and helped the Cougars to earn a 20-5 record during his final two years, including a state runner-up finish as a senior.
He also was a three-year starter in basketball, earning all-county and all-league honors.
Kochevar’s father, Darrin, played college football at both Coffeyville Community College and Bethany College.
