25 DAYS TO 2017 KICKOFF: Joshua Brown

In which BracketCat counts down the 25th day until the 2017 kickoff with a profile of defensive back Joshua Brown.

#13 Joshua Moore
There once was a stud defensive back at Kansas State named Joshua Moore. Although he left school early for a pro career that flamed out, he was a pretty good college cornerback. Here’s hoping Joshua Brown can follow in his footsteps.

Joshua Brown (b. Dec. 3, 1997) is a defensive back prospect from Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Georgia. He has the size of a cornerback, but plays like a safety.

A four-year letter-winner for the Panthers under head coach Willie Cannon, Brown was rated the 50th-best safety in the Class of 2017 by 247Sports. He also was an All-Southeast Region pick by PrepStar.

Brown earned first-team all-state honors as a junior, while he picked up all-region accolades all four years in high school. He also was named his team’s defensive player of the year on two occasions and totaled 189 tackles during his final two seasons — including 102 stops as a junior — while he had seven career interceptions.

Ian Boyd at SportsTreatise seems to really like Brown’s potential as a Cat or free safety:

Brown has a ton of effective range, even making a tackle for loss from a deep center field alignment at one point on film (gotta have good play up front/underneath to make that possible but still) and is just the kind of guy that makes their two-deep concept hard to get traction against. He’s really savvy playing in underneath coverage, but I’m not sure how well he’d hold up playing much man coverage. His range says he could play to the field at SS (Dante Barnett’s spot), but that will depend on how well he develops in coverage.
