18 DAYS TO 2017 KICKOFF: Andrew Hicks

In which BracketCat counts down the 18th day until the 2017 kickoff with a profile of kicker Andrew Hicks.

#10 Anthony Cantele
K-State will need a new, strong-footed kickoff specialist in the vein of Anthony Cantele (10) to replace Ian Patterson this year. Maybe Andrew Hicks can vie to be that player.

Andrew Jason Hicks (b. May 20, 1997) is a walk-on kicker from Mill Valley High School. His father, Darren, played football at Kansas and his brother, Ryan, played at Baker University.

Hicks arrived on campus in the spring and successfully completed three extra-point attempts for the Purple team in the spring game. However, I expect him to redshirt.

Hicks was a three-year letter-winner for the Jaguars under head coach Joel Applebee.

He was named to the USA Today Sports/American Family Insurance All-USA Kansas team as a senior in 2015, in addition to first-team all-state honors from The Topeka Capital-Journal and The Wichita Eagle after connecting on 6 of 10 field-goal attempts, nailing 70 of 71 extra-point attempts and totaling 46 touchbacks on 82 kickoffs.

Hicks also punted 26 times, with a long of 64 yards, and landed five punts land inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. He helped Mill Valley to earn a 12-1 record and capture a state championship in 2015, and earned honorable mention all-state honors as a junior.

A three-year letter-winner in track, Hicks was the anchor for the state medal-winning 4x100 team as a junior.
