In which BracketCat counts down the 44th day until the 2017 kickoff with a profile of fullback Ben Ewing.

Ben Ewing is pretty much the exact same size as Winston Dimel (38). That doesn’t mean he will be as effective or talented of a fullback, however.

Benjamin Lee Ewing (b. June 19, 1996) is a walk-on fullback who transferred from Fort Hays State, where he redshirted during the 2015 season under head coach Chris Brown.

There is no indication of why Ewing apparently did not play football in 2016. He arrived in time for the 2017 spring game, playing for the White team, but he collected no statistics and seems likely to end up on the scout team for the Wildcats.

Ewing was a three-year letter-winner for St. Thomas Aquinas High School under head coaches Mike Thomas and Randy Dreiling. He earned first-team all-state honors from The Wichita Eagle and The Topeka Capital-Journal as a senior in 2014.

Ewing picked up consecutive all-league honors as a junior and senior, was selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl, and was named to the Kansas City All-Star Metro Team.

He was named the Saints’ Most Valuable Player in 2013, and totaled 101 tackles and 11 sacks as a senior in addition to rushing for four touchdowns.

Ewing also lettered in wrestling when he was the national champion in 2013 and 2014. His uncle, Dave, was an All-American wrestler at Iowa State.
