Trace James Kochevar (b. Oct. 22, 1997) is a tall tight end who originally signed with K-State in 2016, but deferred his enrollment (grayshirted) to this spring. He did not play in the spring game and thus should be expected to redshirt this season.
This is especially true because Kochevar might end up being a decent offensive tackle prospect in the long run if he packs on a lot more weight.
A three-year letter-winner for Salina High School South under head coach Sam Sellers, Kochevar earned honorable mention All-State accolades as a junior and senior from The Topeka Capital-Journal and The Wichita Eagle.
He totaled 230 receiving yards during his prep career and helped the Cougars to earn a 20-5 record during his final two years, including a state runner-up finish as a senior.
Kochevar also was a three-year starter in basketball, earning all-county and all-league honors.
His father, Darrin, played college football at Coffeyville Community College and Bethany College.
