Wyatt Anthony Hubert (b. June 13, 1998) is a highly touted in-state defender who graduated high school early to grayshirt this season. He will compete for playing time immediately along the front four, but I still expect him to redshirt to gain weight.
Hubert played at Shawnee Heights High School under head coach Jason Swift. He was rated the nation’s 29th-best strongside defensive end in the Class of 2017 by Rivals, while he was ranked as the second-best player in the state of Kansas by ESPN.
Hubert earned a spot on the USA Today Sports/American Family Insurance All-USA Kansas team, in addition to All-Midlands Region honors from PrepStar.
He also picked up all-state honors as a senior from The Topeka Capital-Journal, The Wichita Eagle and the Kansas Football Coaches Association, while he was an honorable mention selection as a junior.
Hubert totaled 124 career tackles, 43 tackles for loss and 20.5 sacks. He finished his senior season with 63 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks en route to Centennial League Defensive Player of the Year, all-league, and all-city honors.
Hubert also played tight end, totaling 39 career receptions for 500 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was selected to play in the 2017 Kansas Shrine Bowl, and also participated in wrestling and track and field.
