Kansas State went into Lloyd Noble Arena having just been re-inserted into Joe Lunardi’s last four in.
After a humilating 81-51 loss to the worst team in the Big 12, the NIT may not even be in play.
The game was already all but over at the half. Oklahoma only shot 30% in the first half, and went to the locker room leading by 13. Why? The Wildcats (17-12, 6-10) shot only 24% from the field, and were only 1 of 13 from beyond the arc.
Rashard Odomes rocked the backboard with a jam at the end of on a 4-on-1 with 4:24 to play, which was just the resounding exclamation point on a comprehensive beatdown of the Wildcats. That dunk gave Oklahoma (10-18, 4-12) a 26-point lead, capping a 12-point run which once and for all buried any hope K-State had.
There’s really little to say. Isaiah Maurice led K-State with 11 points. Khadeem Lattin led Oklahoma with 17.
It’s time for this season to undergo euthanasia. Once again, K-State gets blasted to smithereens in February, losing all momentum and confidence. Nobody on the court even cared anymore once that 12-point run got moving.
But at least Lon Kruger got his 600th career win. Yay.
Next loss is at TCU on Wednesday. On the other hand, Monday night the women take on 6th-ranked Texas at Bramlage for Senior Night. You should go see them.
