The men finally tasted defeat last night, and while the women are certainly showing a lot of talent it’s not unreasonable to assume that they’ll probably also suffer their first loss of the season within the same 24-hour window.
But never mind that. Two games today, both in the same city, but at different venues in different events.
The games
Women: Kansas State (4-0, 0-0 Big 12) faces the UCLA Bruins (3-1, 0-0 Pac 12) in the opening game of the South Point Shootout. The Bruins are ranked fifth in the nation, so this will definitely be a big test for Jeff Mittie’s charges. The Wildcats have never beaten UCLA despite three attempts; they haven’t played each other since Jimmy Carter was still trying to free the hostages, though, last meeting in December of 1980.
Men: Kansas State (4-1, 0-0 Big 12) meets the George Washington Colonials (2-3, 0-0 Atlantic 10). K-State is 3-1 all-time against the folks from DC, with all three K-State wins coming between 2011 and the most recent meeting between the schools in 2013.
Odds
No line on the women’s game, but the men are favored by 13½ with the over/under at 137. That’s an expected 75-62ish win for the good guys, and OddsShark is even more confident, predicting 82-64.
Tipoff
Women: Friday, November 24 at 3:15pm CT, South Point Arena (9,000) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The South Point Arena is actually an equestrian center attached to a casino and spa, just in case you wanted to be reminded of another reason to be mad at John Currie.
Men: Friday, November 24 at 7:00pm CT at the Orleans Arena (8,000) in Las Vegas. Yes, the men are playing before a smaller maximum capacity than the women.
