College Football Week 3 TV/Streaming Schedule and Viewing Guide

New, comments

We’re not going to lie. Except for a small handful of games, this week is horrible.

It took us until the middle of September, but for the first time this season K-State football actually interferes with other games you might actually want to watch. Such is the way of life in college football. Sometimes, you just have to do without.

Worse, for folks who love K-State but also want to watch other stuff, the K-State game is in a time slot which wrecks the second half of the morning games and the first half of the early afternoon lineup. Of more concern, perhaps, is that this means (a) nobody but us will watch the first half and (b) nobody but us will watch the second half... unless K-State is on the verge of an embarrassing loss.

We already had last night’s battle between potential Big 12 members Houston and Cincinnati, with the Cougars deftly avoiding the “walk out of Cincinnati with a head-scratcher of a loss” meme. Tonight, there are four games on; all of them appear to be hot garbage. Harvard, Baylor, and Arizona State should roll, and that fourth game will just stink because it stinks. Then again, Harvard’s appearance on the schedule does mean that the Ivy League has finally started play.

Early Saturday there are two marquee games -- one because it’s just that big, and the other because it’s North Dakota State’s annual visit to an FBS school. That game will become compelling if the third quarter rolls around and Iowa isn’t playing their backups; Florida State/Louisville will be compelling, period. Miami visits Appalachian State in a game that just feels interesting, and Big 12 play will begin with the ritual de-feathering of the Cyclones at the hands of TCU.

There are some other games with kickoffs in between the 11am window and the 2:30 slot. Only one matters.

At 2:30, Alabama/Ole Miss gets all the headlines, but we also get to relive the glorious hilarity of Colorado/Michigan, and Oregon/Nebraska will either be very interesting or very funny.

Early evening is rather putrid, too, unless you just love watching SEC football no matter who’s playing. Both Army and Navy are lining up wins, and I suppose Texas Tech/Louisiana Tech could be a curious diversion if you like to see two teams who can’t stop scoring. Also in this window, though, is the best FCS-on-FCS action of the week as Northern Iowa travels to Eastern Washington; the only drawback to watching that one, of course, being the fact that it’s at Eastern Washington. That field hurts the eyes.

This, however, is all technicality, as we consider the 6:30 time slot to be part of the “regular evening” window rather than early evening. And at 6:30, Ohio State invades Norman while Michigan State visits Notre Dame. Good luck choosing, unless you’re like me and have three screens in front of you.

The late evening includes BYU/UCLA and Texas/Cal, and at least one of those will be watchable, we’re sure. Below, find the entire schedule which (as always) includes all games broadcast on nationally-available networks as well as all ESPN3 content. This is your open thread for tonight’s sorry slate, should you choose to partake.
