Another day, another commitment is what it seems like for most Kansas State fans. Some fans are focused solely on football starting back up and every Saturday this fall to be spent gathered around watching the Wildcats. Some fans are nervous about the season and what will happen after last year’s frustrating injuries left the team short-handed. Other fans are excited to see the K-State coaches raking in talent for 2017. Regardless of where you fall on that list, the excitement building around football season is contagious.
Since this week has been so packed with commitment announcements, we are excited to share the news of quarterback Sammy Wheeler adding himself to that list.
Very pleased to announce that I have just committed to Kansas State University #EMAW17 pic.twitter.com/uyDTsgkHPp

If the last name rings a bell, Sammy is not the first Wheeler in his family to play at K-State. Not only was his father, Sean Wheeler, a wide receiver at K-State, his uncle Michael also played in Manhattan. With the offer from Kansas State over the weekend, Sammy wasted no time planning to spend his college days in the best little city around. Interestingly enough, Sammy is coming in as a quarterback with this interesting fact we found:
St. James 2017 QB Sammy Wheeler, who was a WR & started one game at QB last yr, commits to KSU as QB. Named to our 25 to Watch yesterday.

Wheeler will start as quarterback this fall for St. James Academy in the Eastern Kansas League, home to some Kansas City area powerhouses when it comes to high school football. The change in leagues will present more competition and a bigger platform for Wheeler to gear up for playing at Kansas State. At 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, Wheeler presents a big bodied style of play and adds natural athleticism from other sports like track to give him an edge. Not only is he transitioning with ease from wide receiver to quarterback, Wheeler has been selected for the KC Nike 7on7 team, a new program to put talented football players in the national spotlight by Nike.

Be sure to check back as I will be going around the Kansas City area and giving updates on the 2017 class commitments throughout the football season. Welcome (back) to the #Family to the Wheelers!
