High profile games? Blowouts. Stuff you weren't thinking about? Buzzer-beaters.

Insanity. If you were looking for it, you weren't finding much of it on your television. Every single televised game which was not played on the West Coast last night was won by at least nine points, although Akron did take Ohio State to overtime before getting destroyed. The average margin of victory in those nine games: 16.67 ppg.

As for the big dance, Dunk City and the Shockers won by a combined 51 points in Dayton. So there's that. The real action took place in the West Coast games of the NIT and down in those tournaments you won't pay attention to because they're beneath your notice.

Washington won a run-and-gun shootout with Long Beach in which the teams combined for 209 points without overtime. Although San Diego State did blow out IPFW, at least viewers got to see Winston Shephard roll a triple-double. The highlight of the night for the NIT, though, was in Moraga. Saint Mary's escaped New Mexico State when with the game tied and just two seconds left, Braxton Huggins inadvertently fouled Joe Rahon in the backcourt as the Gaels were bringing the ball upcourt -- leisurely, as they were going to chuck a prayer and go to overtime if it wasn't answered. So Rahon went to the line, sunk a pair, and the desperation heave plan became New Mexico State's to adopt. It didn't work.

Morehead State did something that doesn't happen often: they knocked Siena out of a national post-season tournament in the first round. Ball State survived Tennessee-Martin in overtime.

But the star of the day was Furman. The Paladins trailed Louisiana-Monroe by a point late, had the ball, and set up a play. After a missed bunny and a tipped rebound, Daniel Fowler jumped, caught the ball, and fired while still in the air. The buzzer sounded in flight, and then chaos erupted when the ball found nothing but net. But that's not the craziest thing.

An hour later, less than a mile away, Furman beat College of Charleston... on a walk-off 3-run homer.
