K-State is finally ready to begin Big 12 play — but one more obstacle stands in its way.
That obstacle is Gardner Webb, the Wildcats’ Wednesday-night opponent. The Wildcats and Runnin’ Bulldogs tip off at 7 p.m. at Bramlage Coliseum.
K-State has gotten off to a 10-1 start, a record that seems impressive on surface level but is made less so when you consider the Wildcats’ only decent opponents have been Maryland — a K-State loss — and Colorado State, a team the Wildcats toppled easily last Saturday.
Gardner-Webb, meanwhile, is 7-5 this season — again, deceiving. The Runnin’ Bulldogs are three days removed from knocking off Nebraska 70-62 on Sunday, when senior forward Tyrell Nelson totaled 24 points and his team held the Huskers at bay in crunch time.
It’s a trap game for the Wildcats, but if their 10-1 record is any indication, they have a fair shot at finishing non-conference play with just the one blemish to their names.
