#91 Mitch Copeland |
Position: Defensive Tackle Previous College: None Projection: Third-String Status: Walk-On |
Mitchell David Copeland (b. Nov. 14, 1995) is a preferred walk-on defensive tackle who redshirted in 2014 and did not see any game action in 2015. He started for the White team in Matt Seiwert's absence during the spring game.
I expect Copeland to contribute this year mainly on the scout team and possibly as a third-string defensive tackle.
He lettered four years under head coaches Bill Messamore and Mike Gehrer at Wichita Collegiate School, where he helped the Spartans to earn a 30-11 record over his four years. He was named a first-team all-state lineman as both a junior and senior, earning honors on the offensive side in 2012 and on the defensive side in 2013.
Copeland had 116 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in his last two years.
He played his freshman and sophomore seasons with his older brother, Myles Copeland — who was a junior linebacker last year for the Wildcats, but since has left the team — and all four years with former Wildcats quarterback Landon Root, who has given up football and "decided to pursue other passions."
