#24 Brock Monty |
Position: Defensive Back Previous College: None Projection: Redshirt Status: Walk-On |
Brock Monty is a walk-on defensive back from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School. He also was being recruited by some teams as a dual-threat quarterback prospect, the position at which he excelled most at the prep level.
Monty also attracted interest from Iowa State, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma State, according to 247 Sports, and he had offers from Cornell and Harvard. Michigan supposedly offered him preferred walk-on status.
As a sophomore, Monty led Kapaun to the Kansas Class 5A semifinals, where the Crusaders were beaten by Salina South. He was an All-City League quarterback after he passed for 1,254 yards and rushed for 613.
After a dip in production in his junior year, Monty threw for more than 2,000 yards and rushed for more than 500 during his senior season, leading the Crusaders back to the 5A playoffs, where they were upset in the first round.
Monty may get a brief shot at quarterback, but I expect him to follow the Ty Zimmerman path to success as a safety.
