#78 Bryce Fitzner |
Position: Offensive Line Previous College: None Projection: Second-String Status: On Scholarship |
Bryce Fitzner (June 24, 1994) is an athletic offensive lineman who used a grayshirt in 2013 and a redshirt season in 2014 to develop and become stronger. He will compete for playing time as a redshirt sophomore.
Fitzner started at left tackle for the White team in the 2015 spring game, but eventually lost his position backing up Cody Whitehair to Ajahne Brager. Brager played sparingly in 2015 and Fitzner did not, which explains why Fitzner moved to right tackle in the 2016 spring game as a backup. (But Brager moved to right guard, so figure that out...)
Fitzner played under head coach John Morrison for Francis Parker High School, where he was a second-team pick at tight end as both a junior and senior. That led some to believe he would play tight end for us, but the coaches think — and I agree — that Fitzner's potential ceiling is much higher as an offensive tackle.
He helped the Lancers to earn California Interscholastic Federation runner-up finishes in both 2011 and 2012, while he was a member of the 2009 CIF championship squad. Watch his high school highlights here.
Fitzner also was a three-year letter-winner in basketball and a two-year letter-winner in volleyball.
