With the exception of the three Wildcats participating in the round-robin draw, all of K-State's singles play ended yesterday at the OU Invite at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Sara Castellano was the brightest star, winning her quarterfinal match against Oklahoma's Simran Sethi 6-4, 6-4 before bowing out in a 6-4, 6-1 semifinal loss to Wichita State's Gabriela Porubin. Iva Bago, the other Wildcat singles player to still compete in a main draw, fell 6-2, 3-6, 6-5 in her quarterfinal match against Texas Tech's Katelyn Jackson, then exited in the consolation quarterfinal against Kamilla Galieva of North Texas 6-6*, 6-2, 6-2.
Carolina Costamagna and Livia Cirnu, deposited into the consolation rounds Frida, each dropped both their matches on Saturday. Ana Garcia Navas, however, won both her matches and will (presumably) face TCU's Olaya Garrido-Rivas tomorrow in the consolation final of the Sooner Draw.In round-robin play, Millie Stretton improved to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-5 win over Tech's Autumn Crossnoe, then won by default over Wichita State's Whitley Quan. Riley Nizzi beat Summer Schlotterback, also of WSU, 6-1, 6-1 to improve to 2-0, while Maria Panaite fell to 1-2 after losing 6-0, 6-0 to WSU's Amber Zimmerman and 6-4, 6*-6 to SMU's Macie Elliott.
In all, the Wildcats went 6-7 in singles, moving to 10-11 for the event.
All the doubles matches we mentioned in yesterday's post will actually take place on Sunday, as will the final portion of the Switzer Draw round-robin. Nizzi will face Zimmerman and OU's Brooke Winthrow, Panaite will take on Crossnoe, and Stretton will meet WSU's Luca Pump.
