2015 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 Friday TV Schedule, Thursday results, Game Thread

Did anyone else go 0-4 on "I hope they win" last night?

Last Night:

Cleveland? Boring. Notre Dame had a much easier time with Wichita State than anyone would have expected, and Kentucky... well. The less said about what Kentucky did to poor West Virginia, the better. It tied the largest margin of victory in a Sweet Sixteen game ever, and Wst Virginia's 39 points is the fewest ever scored by a team in the round.

The games in Los Angeles were much more entertaining, although not particularly close in the end. North Carolina put up a hell of a fight against Wisconsin, and Xavier hung with Arizona until the closing minutes, but a late 19-7 Wildcat run put that to an end.

Of course, you all saw most of that unfold. What you didn't see:

In the first Division II semifinal, Tarleton State built a 10-point lead in the second half, but a 19-3 run by Indiana put the Crimson Hawks through to the championship game. The other semifinal was bonkers, and in light of what it was up against on TV (Kentucky-West Virginia), it was actually the more compelling and entertaining basketball game.

Florida Southern jumped out to a 27-9 lead early, but Bellarmine scrapped back to within three by halftime, and midway through the second half finally took the lead. Then chaos erupted when Florida Southern guard Dominique Williams was called for his fourth foul.

There was only one problem. The official scorer said it was his fifth. A nearly ten-minute stoppage of play ensued, during which CBS Sports Network announcer Andrew Catalon was nearly apoplectic, and even Bellarmine coach Scott Davenport spoke up and said they only had Williams with four fouls. Finally, it was determined that a foul which should have been attributed to Kevin Capers had been assigned to Williams, and play resumed with Williams again eligible to re-enter the contest.

After play resumed, Bellarmine built a five point edge, but the two teams spent the next ten minutes reeling one another back in. Finally, with just eight seconds to play and the game tied at 76, Capers drained a three with just two seconds left on the shot clock. A desperation heave by the Knights at the buzzer rimmed out, and the Mocs celebrated... which created more controversy, as they taunted the Bellarmine fans and there was no post-game handshake.

And you thought only Division I players could outrage television announcers.

Oh, and Evansville dispatched Louisiana-Lafayette in the CIT, with D.J. Balentine going off yet again. Balentine dropped 35 on the Cajuns, his third 20-plus outing in a row. That sets up one CIT semifinal; Evansville will host UT-Martin on Tuesday. Thursday's full results, with green linked recaps courtesy our friends around the SB Nation college network:

Tonight:

We'll set up the rest of the Elite Eight with tonight's action, starting with those scrappy underdogs from a directional school in California going up against a mighty Catholic powerhouse. Another more legitimate set of scrappy underdogs will try to get past Louisville. In the late games, Utah battles Evil, while the Big 12's potential last hurrah is in the making as Lon Kruger leads the Sooners against Tom Izzo and the Spartans.

One lone CIT game is also on the docket, the third of four nightly quarterfinal matches. Your schedule:

Last night:

The bulk of the WNIT third round is now in the books. Erica Covile made a game-tying layup to force overtime, and then Feyonda Fitzgerald banked one in while trying to stay on her feet with less than a second to go to give Temple a one-point win over North Carolina State. West Virginia's women did to Duquesne what Kentucky did to their own men. Father bested son as Rick Insell and his Middle Tennessee State squad topped Mississippi, coached by his son Matt.

But most importanly, we can all relax. Despite a 31-point outburst from forward Stephanie Lee, Northern Colorado is finally out of the WNIT, sent packing by UCLA. Defcon has been reduced to four.

In the WBI, the finals are now set. Louisiana-Lafayette, after fighting off a 19-point deficit to take down Oral Roberts, will visit Siena for the title on Saturday. Results:

Tonight:

The NCAA women's tournament gets back in motion, with two regionals full of chalky chalk-filled chalk. We've got the Battle for Carolina, we've got the Battle of Girls Gone Wild DVDs, we've got the traditional Stanford-Notre Dame thing, and... Iowa-Baylor just doesn't seem to fit the theme, does it?

Finally, a national champion will be crowned tonight, as Cal faces Cal -- that is, California (PA) taking on California Baptist. The state-within-a-state should be the heavy favorite tonight, but the Baptists have proven to be pretty resilient; they've now won five straight games they shouldn't have. Full schedule:
