We welcome back The Manhattan Mercury's intrepid Kansas State basketball beat writer, Joel Jellison, but sadly he does not have much good news for us. We begin (where else?) with the sordid tale of freshman phenom turned sophomore problem child Marcus Foster and eventually delve into the future of Bruce Weber and how much of a chance he deserves to turn things around. The cupboard for next season looks awfully bare.

However, we made an effort to try to find some optimism by looking at some bright spots in Weber's past and imagining what could happen if Dean Wade or Barry Brown turns out to be the next freshman sensation. Point guard and center appear to be pressing needs for next year's roster, so it's clear Weber and his staff have their work cut out for them this offseason. Joel even updates us on D.J. Johnson while using a reference to Kevin Durant, because apparently it's not enough for KSUEMAW! and I to be reminded of the suffering of only one of our favorite basketball teams.

As always, you can read Joel's work at The Mercury's website and follow him on Twitter at @Joel_Jellison.
