Alas, our beloved Lumberjacks are done. Utah's defense proved too much for Stephen F. Austin, and as a result we go back to just being plain old Bring on the Cats. C'est la vie. The early sessions were, to put it mildly, CRAY-ZEE. Four double-digit seeds advanced to the second round, and we were guaranteed that a double-digit seed would make it to the sweet sixteen before dinnertime on Thursday. Contemplate that for a moment. Georgia State, Alabama-Birmingham, UCLA (who shouldn't have), and Ohio State scored early upsets. Half of that was at the expense of the Big 12, sadly, though the league still has four teams with a chance to move on tomorrow. The evening sessions, on the other hand, were flat chalk. They weren't without excitement; Cincinnati and Purdue went to overtime, and three other games were decided by three points or less -- including two more high seeds almost making it through. And the night closed with a 10-point win by Georgetown which was still a thrill ride because Eastern Washington mounted a furious comeback from down 23. The first round of the CIT finally ended, too, as Tennessee-Martin absolutely destroyed Northwestern State. The full results from yesterday, with green linked recaps courtesy our friends around the SB Nation college network. Day two has lots of fun in store, we're sure. The day opens with the hated Jayhawks taking on New Mexico State, and the entire first session is loaded. There won't be a boring game until after 2:00. The evening session sees both Oklahoma schools take the floor, and ends with the team the first round could only end with: Dayton. The second rounds of the NIT and CIT begin tonight as well. A kabillion games last night, but two are of obvious import: Haley Texada went OFF on Akron to send K-State to the second round of the WNIT, and Stephen F. Austin fell to TCU. Indeed, all four schools involved in the coaching wheel of death last spring advanced, as Fresno State and Northern Colorado also won last night. And for the second night in a row, a young lady scored 35 points in a losing effort. The women's NCAA tournament gets underway today. ESPN2 will be showing women's basketball all day long, but we can't tell you which games you'll be seeing where; they're showing all 16 games on a regional basis, with the good old whip-around coverage where appropriate. (They'll all be on ESPN3 everywhere, though.) The first round of the WNIT also comes to a close. The schedule:Last night:
