#28 Jarvis Leverett Jr. |
Position: Running Back Previous College: None Projection: Scout Team Status: On Scholarship |
Jarvis De-allo Leverett Jr. (b. April 21, 1994) is a quality athlete who shined on the scout team during his redshirt season. He has seen limited action during the last two years, but will try to compete for starting duties as a junior.
He earned the team's Red Raider Award as the top contributor on the scout team in 2012, but did not see any action in 2013. He played in four games last season, rushing for a paltry 67 yards on 20 carries.
Leverett, who recorded a career-high 25 yards against Stephen F. Austin and also hit the 20-yard mark against UTEP, was my pick as a starter at this time last year. Obviously, I was dead wrong. But injuries had a lot to do with it.
He was listed as the eighth-best running back in Texas in 2012 by The Houston Chronicle while prepping at Cypress Lake High School and also was named to the newspaper's Texas Top 100 list that year.
During his junior year, Leverett had amassed 349 yards and five TDs through three games when he tore his ACL.
Bouncing back as a senior, Leverett had 500 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a three-game stretch at Cypress Lake. He also was named MVP in track as a sophomore member of the district-qualifying 4x100 meter relay team.
